Man's Prosthesis: Automobile; the Item of Choice
Tutor: Bea Goller. The present thesis proposes us to analyse the contemporary metropolis from the point of view of the automobile and its capacity to transport people and goods throughout a broader area, in comparison with the previous experiences of our society. Key point of its analysis is the perception of the city and its architecture from a vehicle, capable to reach great speed and offer to its users comfort, safety and independence. The vehicle is conceived as an extension of our being. The vantage point of view that the car can offer to its user has a repercussion to the way that we conceive the present metropolis and its dynamism and, of course, the changes in the social tissue. In the heart of this research is the notion of speed as a characteristic of our reality. Speed in our reactions, in our perceptions and in our physical movements.
