Network City Seminar
Kazys Varnelis
In this set of seminars, we will explore the impact of networks on cities during the last century and a half into the relatively near future. We will begin by addressing the rise of the metropolis as a first network city and its replacement by the global city, the second network city. Following the modernist idea of "from spoon to city," the seminar aims to unpack the contemporary urban environment at every level, from the very large (global infrastructures) to the medium (the building) to the small (handheld electronic devices) and the role of the architect within this rapidly changing environment.
