Juan Carlos Sánchez Tappan

Juan Carlos Sánchez Tappan is a Mexican architect, urbanist, writer and educator based in Puerto Vallarta and Barcelona, founder of Studio of Architecture and Research www.espacio-sofar.org, and partner of the México-Barcelona practice SOFAR-D´AURA. He holds a professional B.Arch. degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, a post-professional M.Arch. from the AADRL from the Architectural Association in London, and he is doctoral candidate at the UPC Barcelona.

He is permanent faculty seminar professor and thesis tutor at the Metropolis-FPC/CCCB, Postgraduate Program in Architecture and Urban Culture Metrópolis www.metropolis-bcn.org, he has designed academic agreetments between UIA(MEX)-Metropolis FPC, UIA and ITESO(GDJ)-ELISAVA UPF and ITESM (MTY)-BAC FPC. He has been external consulter to UVM Laureate Universites for the design of a cluster for the areas of architecture and design. He has been faculty and studio professor at the BAC-FPC program teaching in association with Clemson U.,Texas A&M, Texas San Antonio (UTSA), the U. of Montreal (CAN) , ITESM and UIA (México). He has taught at Elisava Design School,UPF; UPC, ETSAB and UIC, ESARQ (BCN); Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico) and he has been guest critic in many programs and institutions and visiting lecturer at Tung Hai University, Taipei and London Metropolitan University.

He has worked in the architectural offices of Isaac Broid (México D.F.), S.O.M.(London), BCQ (Barcelona) among others. His writings and designs have been published in Architectural Design magazine, Corporate Fields 2005, AAX AADRL documents, Taschen, Art4D, AAFiles, ACTAR among others.
