Irene Hwang
Irene is an architect and freelance writer based in Barcelona, Spain. She holds an MArch degree from Harvard University (Graduate School of Design) and a Bachelors degree in International Relations and Art History from the University of Pennsylvania.
Having worked in San Francisco, Hong Kong, Boston, and most recently in Madrid and Barcelona, Irene's professional background includes work with the architecture offices of Rafael Moneo, Rojo-Fernandez Shaw, OAB (Carlos Ferreter), and Brand Allen. For the past four years, she has been an editor with Actar Publishers and has published independently in both the United States and Europe.
As an extension of her editorial work, Irene has co-curated the inaugural exhibition of the new Design Hub of Barcelona and is currently developing the museum's first book publication.
Parallel to her professional practice, Irene's academic work has included studio teaching throughout her studies at the GSD, and she has been a guest professor at the UIC (University Internacional de Catalunya) and participated as an invited juror for the undergraduate architecture programs of the University of Illinois (Chicago), American University, and Metropolis (prior to joining the faculty). Presently, she is also a tutor in the diploma program of the ELISAVA in Barcelona.
Irene has lectured at the Harvard GSD (Fall 2007) and UPC in Barcelona on various occasions.
