FACULTY
Antoni Muntadas
Antoni Muntadas studied architecture in Barcelona, where he received an M.A. from Escuela Tecnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales and at Pratt Graphics Center in New York; has taught extensively, at the University of California in San Diego, Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux, Center for Advanced Visual Studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) and the San Francisco Art Institute, among other institutions; lives and works in New York City (USA) and Barcelona. Antoni Muntadas is a multimedia artist who worked in painting and sculpture in his native Catalonia before moving to New York in 1971. He has produced an important body of installations, public art projects and videotapes. He has focused his artistic activity on a critique of the media, (television, the press, advertising, and architecture). Deconstructing the systems of representation and information that pervade the contemporary «media landscape,» he posits a compelling discourse on the «invisible mechanisms» that inform the production and reception of mass media texts. He will be the Spanish Representative of the forthcoming Venice Art Biennial.
